The V16 Rolls Royce that never was

Another headline from the Frankfurt auto show is the customized Rolls Royce Phantom being used in the second Johnny English movie. It is a 9- Liter V16 Rolls Royce Phantom. Now the Phantoms that are sold today only have V12 engines but before you think that this is some type of crazy custom creation the V16 was supposed to be stock. As Rowen explains in his interview on the british motoring show Top Gear is when BMW originally purchased Rolls Royce they planned on making the massive 9 liter V16 stock. But at the last minute they changed their minds and opted for the smaller V12.

Unfortunately this Rolls Royce with it's moster engine won't be seen outside of theaters. The interview with Top Gear where Rowen (a huge car buff) talks about the custom Rolls is below. (He starts talking about the car around the 3:50 mark)

Until next week.

Hello and welcome to Automotive Weekly,

This week is a big week in automotive news because it is the week of the Frankfurt Auto Show. This is the week when a lot of the major players in the European automotive industry show off their new models.

The first new model announcement comes from Ferrari who have unveiled the spider version of their popular 458 Italia.

The stats:

0-60 time around 3 seconds

Well hopefully Ferrari decides to fix the problems that caused the earlier coupe models to catch on fire or your beautiful Italia Spider might end up like this.

Until next week when we'll update you with more news from the auto show and the industry in general.
